GAT Loving Reading Festival Month
All KS1 pupils across the Trust will be taking part in the “Love Reading” festival, taking place from the 10th of June until the 5th of July 2019.
The festival aims to:
- Promote the love of reading.
- Inspire the love of reading through creating exciting reading corners and role play areas.
- Raise the profile of contemporary and exciting authors with pupils.
- Motivate pupils to read more for pleasure.
- Make time for shared class stories in the school day.
As part of the festival, pupils will be getting involved with a number of activities, including Reading Challenges, which will change each week with a range of 10 activities to complete at home and school. Children will be awarded a gold, silver or bronze certificate each week for the level of completion. There shall be a Pokémon, Disney, Superheroes and Favourite Characters theme over each of the four weeks.
Each Academy will be receiving books from new or contemporary authors as well as up to date storytellers. The classes in each school will be given a book to share and will be encouraged to read a new book each as a class story time.
One of the festival’s activities has already taken off before the official start date; the “Get Caught Reading!” competition encourages pupils to be photographed while reading in unusual places; weekly winners will be award prizes. We cannot wait to see all the entries!
