The People Directorate’s mission is to enable the organisation to attract, recruit and retain the best talent, to secure successful pupil and organisational outcomes, by delivering exceptional HR/People services through robust systems and professional expertise.

The key aspects of the service are:

Core People Processes

Our team are dedicated to delivering a broad and comprehensive service for over 3,000 employees at each stage of the employee lifecycle. We also support Trust and academy leaders with specialist, professional 'HR' advice in accordance with policies and guidance. We ensure there is sufficient expertise at the centre to manage the challenges of a single employer (GAT) operating across multiple regions.

Core People Processes are the essential administrative and operational aspects of our work. A strong governance framework, robust systems and data management are at the heart of this, enabling us to provide an effective and statutory compliant service.

We guide academies through completion of the Annual School Workforce Census and provide expert advice and oversight of each academy Single Central Record (including attendance at Ofsted and HMI inspections).

Recruitment

We offer support, advice, guidance and training in all matters related to recruitment and oversee the entire recruitment lifecycle for our academies and central functions. This work is facilitated by our sector leading Applicant Tracking Service, a key component in our technology suite, through which we develop our Trust brand and enhance the profile of our individual academies.

A lead organisation for Initial Teacher Training since 2012, we work in partnership with multiple regional and national providers, utilising DfE grant funding and our apprenticeship levy wherever possible.

We provide comprehensive support, expert advice, and high-quality training to ensure Safer Recruitment practices and Keeping Children Safe in Education compliance is embedded across the organisation.

Payroll and Pensions

We provide comprehensive payroll and pension services for the organisation, which includes direct specialist advice for employees and guidance for academies.

We process accurate and timely monthly payroll, contractual changes in line with National Terms and Conditions, annual pay awards and automatic pay progression.

Our pension services encompass the completion of Pension Annual Returns for both the Teachers' Pension Scheme and the Local Government Pension Scheme. We manage pension administration, including auto and re-enrolment processes, and offer estimates for those planning their retirement.

Organisational Development

We develop and implement ‘HR’ policies, embracing continuous improvement to ensure they remain effective, responsive, and aligned with evolving needs of the organisation.

We continue to develop an increasingly data-driven service to support Trust and academy leaders with strategic decision-making. Our data insights and reporting capabilities enable us to effectively target support.

We facilitate initiatives to promote social, physical and mental wellbeing to ensure our talented and highly valued staff are healthy, happy and safe. We drive employee engagement across the organisation with the delivery of high-quality internal communications.
